newsfiddler2010The Southern State Community College theatre department, along with Hillsboro High School, is pleased to announce their upcoming musical of Fiddler on the Roof. This production will be co-directed by Rainee Angles, SSCC speech and theatre instructor; Jennifer Bogenschutz, HHS drama instructor; and David White, HHS music instructor. Show times are scheduled for Fri., March 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sat., March 10 at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A matinee performance will take place on Sun., March 11 at 3:30 p.m. All performances will be held in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on the central campus in Hillsboro.

Fiddler on the Roof is a musical set in Anatevka, a small town in Tsarist Russia at the beginning of the 20th century. The play provides a story of Tevye (performed by Benjamin Gullett) his wife Golde (performed by Bronwyn Jones-Van Frank) and their five daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel, Chava, Shprintze, and Bielke (performed by Emmy Lakes, Courtney Chambers, Lauren Gunderman, Lydia Bolitho and Allison Goolsby respectively.) Tevye is striving to find husbands for his daughters as well as keep the important traditions of his Jewish community. Much to Tevye’s chagrin, his daughters have their own ideas about matchmaking and marriage. Within the story, Tevye learns to accept the inescapable changes that face his family and his village.

The cast of the show also includes Robin Butler, Chris Wise, Kaye York-Longworth, Tyler Bryant, Steven Butler, J.R. Butler, Donald Isaac, Jerry Bailey, Bob Brown, Greg Goolsby, Amy Petzold, Sara Klotz, Daniel Bragdon, Adam Rankin, Donald Gehres, Bryce Penwell, Seth Parshall and Jon Davidson. Rounding out the cast as villagers of Anatevka are Kelsey Bick, Emma Bolitho, Curran Butler, Maddie Cupp, Megan Dooley, Laura Eigel, Andrew Goolsby, Christian Gunderman, Shelby Habe, Rachael Hall, Sarah Hedges, Holly Hilliard, Lizzie Keister, Meredith Keister, Catherine Ledger, Sara Ledger, Marissa Miller, Shannon O’Brien, Amy Thirey, Rebekah Thirey and Ariel Thornton.

The show’s production team includes Brent and Rainee Angles; set design; Jeremy Burgess and Will Klotz, light and sound; Tara Butler, choreographer; Kim Garvie, house manager; Bob Headley, props master; Caitlin Headley, dramaturg; Susan Headley, costume designer; and Benjamin Gullett, publicity manager. Christina Cadwallader and Sarah Williams are stage managing the production.
