SSCC Theatre’s long-awaited production of Jane Austen’s Pride &Prejudice, adapted by Jon Jory, opens this weekend with performances on June 5 and 6 at 7:30pm and again on June 7 at 3:30pm. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $5 for students and faculty (with ID).

This time-honored, romantic novel is brought to life on the stage in this new snappy, witty, and always charming adaptation. It is 1813 England and nearly the last thing on Elizabeth Bennet’s (portrayed by Honey Lea Smith) mind is finding a suitor. Unfortunately, to Elizabeth’s chagrin, her mother’s (Leslie Holmes) convictions are thecomplete opposite, trying to marry off all of her daughters including the most beautiful,Jane (Heather Storer), plain Mary (Jessica Chamblin) and her two frivolous youngest, Kitty and Lydia (Ashley Kearney and Amy Petzold, respectfully).  But when the independent, effervescent Elizabeth meets the dapper, yet indecipherable Mr. Darcy (Benjamin Gullett) she becomes persistent in making sure that her feelings are not triumphed by what she perceives to be the abhorrent truths about this mysterious man. In a society where subtle snubs and deceit proliferate, is it possible for Elizabeth and Darcy to look beyond his pride and her prejudice, and to make the best match of all?
