Mrs. Wright has murdered her husband. But the story of how she did it doesn’t seem quite right. Two women, while collecting possessions to bring to Mrs. Wright, start discovering inconsistencies in the story that’s being distributed as the truth. This is the premise of Susan Glaspell’s renowned one act play, Trifles, playing in The Edward K. Daniels Auditorium at Southern State Community College, Hillsboro, Ohio, on Wednesday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. Admission to Trifles is free.
Cast members include Deven Rine as the County Attorney investigating a seemingly open and shut case, and Leslie Holmes, a neighbor who doesn’t see things quite so black and white. Casey Baker, Bob Brown, and Mark Holmes complete this talented ensemble in a drama that is sure to entertain and spark conversation.
Trifles is directed by Rainee Angles and stage-managed by Kat Castle. SSCC Theatre is pleased to welcome back Abe Martin as our production designer and Laura Martin as our costume designer. Fulfilling other crew positions are: Brent Angles, Jessica Brown, Veronica Carpenter, Jessica Culver, D.J. Griffith, Benjamin Gullett, Hannah Hengler, Alicia Jones, Bronwyn Jones, Kelly Lay, Megan Marvin, McCaylee Priest, and Lisa Tilton.
At the conclusion of the performance there will be a talk-back session where audience members will be given the opportunity to ask the cast questions about the play and characters. In addition, audience members are invited to bring their own “trifles” (canned goods and non-perishables) to the performance. All donations will be given to the local charity, Samaritan Outreach. In return for donations each person will receive a ticket for a chance to win a prize during the raffle at the conclusion of the talk-back session.
