SSCC Theatre proudly celebrates its 20th season, continuing a longstanding tradition of live performance at Southern State Community College. This special anniversary season will feature a dynamic blend of drama and comedy, beginning with William Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy Hamlet, taking the stage November 7–9, 2025. The spring will bring the riotous backstage farce Noises Off, scheduled for April 10–12, 2026. Both productions will be presented in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on SSCC’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

This milestone season also marks a heartfelt farewell, as longtime director Rainee Angles prepares to retire from SSCC in 2026. Angles has been the creative force behind SSCC Theatre, having directed and designed nearly every production over the past two decades. Her passion, artistry, and leadership have shaped more than 50 shows, including memorable stagings of The Diary of Anne Frank, August: Osage County, Our Town, Pygmalion, The Elephant Man, Pride & Prejudice, Bloody Poetry, The Crucible, and The Nerd, among many others. With advanced degrees in Theatre and Humanities, and a career that began on the stage and in the classrooms of Hillsboro High School, Angles has dedicated her life to arts education and storytelling. Her final season promises to be a fitting celebration of her legacy and the lasting impact she has made on students, audiences, and the community.

Here’s a closer look at what’s in store for the season:

William Shakespeare’s Hamlet is a gripping tale of revenge, madness, and political intrigue. When Prince Hamlet learns that his father was murdered by his own uncle—now the king—he spirals into a web of feigned insanity, existential doubt, and bloody retribution. Ghostly visitations, elaborate schemes, and a deadly duel all drive this tragic masterpiece toward its haunting conclusion.

Called “the funniest farce ever written,” Noises Off, by Michael Frayn, presents a manic menagerie of traveling actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. As opening night looms, backstage chaos rivals the onstage antics, with missed cues, romantic entanglements, and misplaced props spiraling into comic disaster. Doors slamming, on- and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure into the plot of this hilariously chaotic and classically comic play.
